Confession: we got married last year. My husband and I met under the Detroit-Superior bridge a few years ago, and we’ve kind of let Cleveland pave the way. So, it was required to have a very Cleveland wedding. It was so rad.
We’re not talking skylines, Browns colors and cliches. It was unique, thoughtful, personal, stylish. This wedding was made in Cleveland. Just like us.
What I discovered plotting it, however, was a void where resources and inspiration for having that kind of wedding, in Cleveland, should have lived. My vendors were people I knew, loved or stumbled upon along the way. And they were all frickin’ killer. But where were their names on wedding blogs and listings? Why wouldn’t I have found them if it weren’t for established relationships and happy accidents?
Common perception seemed to be that unique, inspired weddings could only be imitated, imported from New York, Chicago and LA. The pieces of it, at least. What I’ve learned since proves the contrary.
